After watching the "Connected but Alone" Ted Talk I do have to agree that we allow technology to take us places we do not want to go. Many people use technology as a shield. When I think of this I think of Cyberbullying. When people bully other people online I feel that they are too scared to say anything to the persons face so they hide behind their computer screen to do that. This is also true when people get into fights or have to have serious conversations. Everyone finds it easier to send a text than say it face to face. But in reality many conflicts are solved so much easier face to face, instead we hide behind our phones to send every message with our feelings.
This being said, I do also believe that technology has taken away our ability to have a conversation. I believe this also because we all hide behind our phones and computer screens but can never stand up for ourselves or others in person because we are all too scared of face to face confrontation. Another reason technology has taken away our ability to have a conversation is the fact that we can send a text anytime to anyone and ask them whatever we want rather than walking up to them to ask them. I feel that this is making each generation also a little lazier in the fact that instead of walking up the stairs to talk to your parents you can give them a call or text them. Every time we send a text instead of walking up to someone it is just another example of how technology has taken away our ability to have a conversation.
